About Stanford Against Hate

The horrifying events of October 7th left an indelible scar on the global conscience. The impacts of this barbaric terrorist attack have reverberated across continents, ushering in a terrifying increase in antisemitism, notably on elite US college campuses including our beloved Stanford. Jewish and Israeli students, faculty and staff at The Farm are now living in fear.

According to the FBI, Jews, who make up only 2.4% of the U.S. population, are the targets of about 60% of hate crimes linked to religion. A report by the ADL Center on Extremism notes nearly 400-percent increase in preliminary antisemitic incidents reported year over-year. And based on data from Hillel international, since Oct 7 there have been 165 reported antisemitic incidents on US campuses, including 14 incidents of physical harassment of Jewish students, 19 security threats, 56 counts of vandalism, 59 hate speech incidents, and 5 matters requiring urgent legal services. According to Hillel, 80% of actual cases on campuses aren't reported.

Why is this happening?

According to a recent Harvard study, 48% of American youth aged 18-24 side with Hamas. 41% fail to recognize Hamas as terrorists. This is a terrifying reality. The significance of these figures is accentuated when juxtaposed with the unspeakable horrors perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th.

The systematic propagation of a false narrative concerning the conflict, veiled in deep-rooted antisemitic sentiments and unfounded accusations against Israel, has found fertile ground among many young minds. This false narrative, aggressively championed by well-resourced entities like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and reinforced through powerful social media algorithms on Instagram and TikTok, has kindled a tidal wave of antisemitic hostility on campuses, manifesting in vehement calls for violence against Jewish and Israeli students.

In the face of this escalating antisemitism, we – a coalition of Jewish and non-Jewish Stanford undergrads, grads, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni –  have come together to challenge and rectify these harmful misrepresentations. We have been meeting with Stanford leadership – President Saller, Provost Martinez and GSB Dean Levin – and we have their ear. We are pushing for immediate action to de-escalate rising tensions and assuage fears on campus, as well as a comprehensive long-term plan that demonstrates Stanford’s enduring commitment to combating antisemitism.

Now is our opportunity to lead.

Sphere on Spiral Stairs

Our Mission

  1. Education: Fill the glaring education gap of the Stanford community on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the rich tapestry of Jewish history, the history of the Middle East, and the genesis of the State of Israel. Currently, SJP’s propaganda-filled hate is the dominant narrative on campus. Students deserve fact based, comprehensive education on these topics.

  2. Activism: Promote pro-Israel and anti-hate activism on campus, striving to rebuild a safe and understanding learning environment that embraces tolerance and informed, civil discourse.

  3. Media: Share our education and activism endeavors through social media and news platforms, combating the misinformation that fuels hatred.

  4. Campus Climate: Work with Stanford leadership to ensure the safety of students and combat antisemitism on campus in the short and long term

Our Vision

A University where everyone, including Jews and Israelis, feel welcome, supported, and appreciated.

Our vision transcends the boundaries of Stanford. We, aim to replicate this initiative on a national scale, thereby contributing to a more informed and empathetic society. To make this vision a reality, we need your support.

Care to donate?

We are raising money to finance the inaugural year of this venture. Our first priority is to enable educational and activism events to effectively challenge the influence of hate oriented organizations such as SJP on campus.

Your support at this critical juncture can make a significant difference, not only in safeguarding the truth but also in fostering a safer, more inclusive environment for all members of the Stanford community and beyond. We invite you to join us as we embark on a path to an enduring legacy of dialogue and acceptance for all at our beloved Stanford University.

Your gift will serve as a cornerstone for this project, setting a precedent of enlightenment and tolerance that we aspire to propagate across universities nationwide.
